House music is a genre of electronic dance music that developed in chicago in the 1980s and has remained highly successful in mainstream pop music and dance music worldwide ever since. With its roots in disco music, it is characterised by its repetitive 4x4 beat, off beat hi-hat cymbals and synthesized basslines. Over the years house music has developed several sub genres which encompass various other musical influences.
